2/22/24 - The BC Association of Broadcasters has announced its annual Awards of Excellence, recognizing the “Best in Province” for radio and television commercials, station imaging, community service and news reporting. Multiple award winners include RED FM CKYE-FM 93.1 Surrey and The Zone CJZN-FM 91.3 Victoria.  Broadcast Dialogue

Randene Neill

2/22/24 - Former long-time Global BC news anchor Randene Neill is one of five people seeking the provincial NDP nomination for Powell River-Sunshine Coast. She has most recently been working as a consultant for Coast Communications. The BC NDP will likely confirm the nomination candidates in mid-March.  Connie Jordison, Coast Reporter

Jeremy Baker

2/21/24 - Former Vancouver and Victoria radio host Jeremy Baker recently returned to the west coast after ten months as morning show host at Surge 105 CKHY-FM 105.1 Halifax. Before heading east last spring he hosted mornings at The Peak CKPK-FM 102.7 Vancouver. Since returning, the BCIT Broadcast Program graduate has done some radio fill-in work and is now in sales at Meridian RV in Port Coquitlam.      

Haley Lewis

2/21/24 - Global BC on-line Indigenous journalist Haley Lewis has announced that today is her last day. She says she is, "taking a break and trying to figure out what’s best for me." The 2018 UBC Journalism Master has been with Global BC since January 2023.  X Announcement

Marguerite Callegari

2/17/24 - Former CBC Vancouver staffer Marguerite Callegari (nee Falk) passed away January 28 in Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver at age 93. She began her career with CBC in April 1963, later progressing to TV programming, where she handled a number of projects before retiring on August 31, 1989.  CBC Obituary

2/15/24 - The Zone CJZN-FM 91.3 Victoria morning host Dylan Willows announced his decision to step down in an emotional on-air announcement this morning, telling listeners about his recent stage 4 uveal melanoma diagnosis. 2/15/24 - Maria Vinca has been named the new afternoon drive co-anchor on CityNews 1130 CKWX Vancouver with John Ackermann. She has been an anchor at the station since 2022.  LinkedIn Posting

2/15/24 - Bethany Lindsay, who announced her departure from CBC Vancouver last week, has joined the Investigative Journalism Foundation (IJF) as a reporter focused on covering white collar crime in B.C.  X Announcement

Andrew Johnson

2/12/24 - CTV Vancouver anchor Andrew Johnson, has announced he is leaving local airwaves to join CTV National News. Continuing to be based in Vancouver, he will be reporting BC news to the Canada-wide audience. Johnson has co-anchored CTV News Vancouver at Five alongside Nafeesa Karim for the past two years.  Daily Hive

2/09/24 - As individual names of laid off Bell Media employees start to come out, TSN SportsCentre host Cory Woron has announced he is out of his job after 24 years. Bryan Edwards

2/09/24 - Courtenay-based Vista Radio president Bryan Edwards says there won't be any closures or layoffs at the 21 BC radio stations that are being purchased from Bell Media. The deal with Bell, which is subject to CRTC approval, includes all Bell Media radio stations in B.C., apart from those in Vancouver and Victoria.  Victoria News

2/08/24 - All noon and weekend newscasts on CTV Vancouver and all but Toronto CTV stations will end as part of massive cuts and asset sales by Bell Media. The company is selling 21 of its small and medium market radio stations in BC and laying off 10% of its total workforce. 2/06/24 - Bethany Lindsay has announced her last day at CBC Vancouver, where she has worked as a reporter since 2017. The UBC Masters Degree holder is also an accomplished author at MacIntyre Purcell Publishing and has previously reported for the Vancouver Sun and CTV VancouverX Posting

2/05/24 - Global Calgary is welcoming its new Executive Producer Espe Currie. She announced her departure as Supervising Producer at CityNews Vancouver in December after joining Rogers Media Vancouver in 2019.  LinkedIn Announcement

2/02/24 - Former Vancouver radio executive Ronnie Stanton, who left his position as Audio Vice-President at Corus Entertainment in December, has landed a new position as Chief Content Officer at Virgin Radio International. 2/02/24 - Gabriela Panza-Beltrandi has joined CTV Vancouver as a reporter. The 2016 Toronto Metropolitan University Bachelor of Journalism was most recently a reporter, newsreader and producer at CBC Toronto.

2/01/24 - One of the latest rounds of fake ads targeting well known Canadians was leveled at Vancouver-based CBC National news anchor/ reporter Ian Hanomansing. It's just one of a series of bizarre fake ads that have been making the rounds on X.  Daily Hive
