early Sunday (10/20) at age 82 in Laughlin, NV. He worked at several

Former Vancouver TV cameraman Craig Lawrence died on September 1 at age
73, following a stroke and early onset Parkinson’s. The early 1970s BCIT
Broadcast Program graduate was eventually promoted to Director of
Photography at BCTV/ Global, a title he held until 2013. He worked on a
number Olympic games and the annual Variety Show of Hearts

is in hospital following a successful minor procedure. Recovery time is
expected to take a while. Doc entertained at a number of stations over
the years, but is likely most recognized for his years as morning host

9/06/24 - Former Vancouver broadcaster John Vennavally-Rao
has released some news about his absence from TV screens. Twelve months
ago, following a routine colonoscopy, doctors discovered he had two
completely separate cancers: rectal cancer and lung cancer. He says he
is doing ok and has his sights set on returning to work. The 53 year old
was a general assignment reporter at VTV/ CTV BC from 1997-2002, and is most recently a CTV National News Correspondent based in Toronto. CTV News

9/06/24 - Liz Shorten, COO of the Canadian Media Producers Association, was among those awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal
during a ceremony with B.C. Premier David Eby and B.C. Lieutenant
Governor Janet Austin. Shorten was recognized for her outstanding
commitment and dedication to the film, television and digital media
sectors. Others from the B.C. media community recognized include Sp!ce
Radio founder Shushma Datt, CKYE RED FM news director Harjinder Thind, South Asian NHL play-by-play commentator Randip Janda, journalist and TV commentator Guo Ding, and journalist Debbie Chen.

Global BC has announced the passing of two former staffers. Craig
Lawrence died over the weekend from Parkinson’s. He had worked for BCTV/
Global BC as a Camera Operator. Another recent loss of note is Carlo
Sgaetti. Many people work with his son Luca and may have also worked
with Carlo during his time at Global BC and
BCTV.

issues July 2 at age 83. She spent several years as a script assistant
working primarily on The 7 O’Clock Show. She moved to Toronto for

runs at CBC Edmonton and Halifax before returning to CBUT as an
Executive Producer.

is celebrating its 80th anniversary this week with some special
programming tomorrow (8/15). CKNW signed on August 15, 1944 with 250
watts on AM 1230, moving to 1320 with 1000 watts in 1949 and then to its
current 980 position in 1958, first with 10,000 watts then to 50,000 in

staffer Michael Hugh Morgan passed away July 4, 2024 at 80 years of age.
He spent 13 years with CBC Vancouver in the '60s and '70s as a Unit
Manager/ Production Manager and then 19 years in Toronto, mostly with
the Sports department covering events including football games, the
Kentucky Derby and numerous Olympic Games, retiring to Vancouver Island
in 1996.

time producer/ director Kimberley Dawn Kuhn (Irvine) passed away June 18
at age 48 following a battle with cancer. The 1996 BCIT Television
Production graduate had a long list of broadcast producer and director
credits and had been a director with Global BC for the last 25 years. A
private service will be held for family and close friends on July 2nd in
North Vancouver with a Celebration of Life to follow at a later

have partnered up for the upcoming Canadian Football season to

1/09/24 - 40+ year Vancouver broadcast veteran Alan Waterman has been appointed to the Board of Directors at Honour House,
a refuge for members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans, Emergency
Services Personnel and their families to stay while receiving medical
care and treatment. Waterman worked in several roles at CBC Vancouver
from 1977 to 2016 and more recently has been a freelance mobile
journalism & video journalism trainer. X Posting

1/06/24 - After a brief break from the news industry, former CHEK-TV Victoria News Director Scott Fee is returning to produce and anchor CHEK’s weekend newscast. He left Vancouver Island to anchor at Global Calgary,
but returned to CHEK as the station’s ND in 2019, a position he held
until 2023. His first newscast will be Saturday January 13. Fee replaces
Hannah Lepine who left CHEK in December to return home to Calgary to be closer to family, joining CTV Calgary as a reporter and producer. CHEK News

broadcast transmitter maintenance and repair expert George Sumyie passed
away at Eagle Ridge Hospital in Port Moody December 9, 2023 at age 84.
He worked for Vancouver-based Broadcast Technical Services until
retirement in 2000. He also co-owned and established CKLQ AM 1570
Brandon, MB in 1977. A celebration of life will be held in the spring or

1/04/24 - Former Vancouver broadcaster Neil Morrison, who announced last February that broadcasting was no longer in his future, has joined Mix 107.9 CKBT-FM Fort Saskatchewan, AB in p.m. drive. He is best known locally for his time at CFOX FM 99.3 Vancouver from 2004-14 following 15+ years in Toronto radio.
