Tarzan Dan Freeman

1/31/24 - Former Vancouver and Victoria broadcaster Tarzan Dan Freeman, who announced he was leaving his most recent positions last week, joins iHeartRadio Canada Monday, February 5 as the new midday host on the company's 22 Bounce Radio stations. His show, featuring hits from the ’80s, ’90s and 2000s, will air from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. local times.  Connie Thiessen, Broadcast Dialogue

Tarzan Dan Freeman

1/26/24 - Former Vancouver and Victoria broadcaster Tarzan Dan Freeman has announced he is leaving his current weekend positions at Boom CHBM-FM 97.3 Toronto and XL 103.1 CFXL-FM Calgary for something new. He previously hosted evenings at CKXY Vancouver from 1988-90, p.m. drive at CFUN-FM Vancouver in 2011 and a.m. drive at CHTT-FM Victoria from 2011-12.  Facebook Video  1988 CKXY Audio Courtesy Radio West

1/17/24 - Durham Radio has applied to the CRTC for a rebroadcasting transmitter for CIWV-FM 98.3 Vancouver. It is proposed to operate at 98.7 MHz with a maximum ERP of 6000 watts. Dan Sys, Radio West  CRTC Data
 
Dylan Willows

1/14/24 - The Zone CJZN-FM 91.3 Victoria morning co-host Dylan Willows returns to the airwaves following a five-week break brought on by a diagnosis of cancer that occurs in the tissues of the eye. Lauren Pullen

1/14/24 - CTV Vancouver 11:30 p.m. weekend news anchor Lauren Pullen takes over weeknight anchor duties from Mary Cranston, who departs on maternity leave. Kevin Charach will now host the weekend late night newscast.
 
Sarika Cullis-Suzuki

1/12/24 - Victoria-based marine biologist Sarika Cullis-Suzuki has officially debuted as co-host of The Nature of Things with Toronto’s Anthony Morgan on CBC Television. They succeed her father David Suzuki, who hosted Canada's premier science TV show from 1979 until his retirement last year.  Dana Gee, Vancouver Sun

David Kirk

1/12/24 - Former CBC Vancouver producer David Kirk passed away from cancer in Kelowna on November 17, 2023 at age 79. He was a director on The National in Toronto in the 1970s and a producer in the CBC Vancouver newsroom during the early 1980s.  Dignity Memorial Obituary
 
Renee Filippone

1/11/24 - Long-time CBC Vancouver reporter Renée Filippone has been named Managing Editor of Daily News at the Vancouver bureau. She's held several positions since joining CBC, following her graduation from the Broadcast Journalism program at BCIT in 2006. Filippone succeeds Tinnie Chow, who left her position as Senior Manager for News and Programs in October.
 
Radio Star 2023

1/11/24 - On-Air Coach has announced its Radio Star 2023 award winners. The Jeff O’Neil Show on CFOX-FM 99.3 Vancouver has been named Best Morning Show. Former CFOX host and now a Los Angeles-based syndicated host Greg Beharrell has been awarded Most Creative On-AirList of Winners
 
Kiran Singh

1/10/24 - Former CBC Vancouver reporter and associate producer Kiran Singh has announced he's starting a new position as Communications Officer for the Surrey Langley Skytrain Project at Transportation Investment Corporation. He held reporter and associate producer positions with CBC from 2021-23.  LinkedIn Posting

John Kirkup

1/10/24 - Former CBC Vancouver staffer John Kirkup passed away December 4, 2023 at age 86. He joined the Corporation's Finance Department in 1973 and later worked in other departments including Feature Film Procurement and Syndicated Programming on CBUT during the '70s and '80s, retiring in 1998 after 25 years service. Alan Waterman

1/09/24 - 40+ year Vancouver broadcast veteran Alan Waterman has been appointed to the Board of Directors at Honour House, a refuge for members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans, Emergency Services Personnel and their families to stay while receiving medical care and treatment. Waterman worked in several roles at CBC Vancouver from 1977 to 2016 and more recently has been a freelance mobile journalism & video journalism trainer.  X Posting

Scott Fee

1/06/24 - After a brief break from the news industry, former CHEK-TV Victoria News Director Scott Fee is returning to produce and anchor CHEK’s weekend newscast. He left Vancouver Island to anchor at Global Calgary, but returned to CHEK as the station’s ND in 2019, a position he held until 2023. His first newscast will be Saturday January 13. Fee replaces Hannah Lepine who left CHEK in December to return home to Calgary to be closer to family, joining CTV Calgary as a reporter and producer.  CHEK News

George Sumyie
1/04/24 - AM broadcast transmitter maintenance and repair expert George Sumyie passed away at Eagle Ridge Hospital in Port Moody December 9, 2023 at age 84. He worked for Vancouver-based Broadcast Technical Services until retirement in 2000. He also co-owned and established CKLQ AM 1570 Brandon, MB in 1977. A celebration of life will be held in the spring or early summer.  Sun/ Province Obituary

Neil Morrison

1/04/24 - Former Vancouver broadcaster Neil Morrison, who announced last February that broadcasting was no longer in his future, has joined Mix 107.9 CKBT-FM Fort Saskatchewan, AB in p.m. drive. He is best known locally for his time at CFOX FM 99.3 Vancouver from 2004-14 following 15+ years in Toronto radio.
   

Johnny Novak

1/04/24 - Virgin Radio CHBE-FM Victoria morning show co-host Johnny Novak, is now also being heard in p.m. drive on Virgin Radio CFMG-FM 104.9 Edmonton. He's one half of Virgin Mornings with Bailey & Johnny in Victoria.

Univision KVOS-TV

1/01/24 - Border station KVOS-TV Bellingham has added Spanish language Univision on its primary 12.1 channel, moving Heroes and Icons to sub-channel 12.8. With its transmitter on Mt. Constitution on nearby Orcas Island, KVOS provides a near-local signal to many parts of Vancouver, Victoria and southwest BC.
