9/08/24 - The Breeze CHLG-FM 104.3 Vancouver Program Director and afternoon host Simone Grewal has been named Vice President of the British Columbia Association Of Broadcasters. 9/08/24 - Olivia McDonald joins the Vancouver Canucks content team as a new rinkside reporter. She recently was a reporter/ anchor at CKPG-TV Prince George.  Canucks News
    

Sooke Radio Society


9/06/24 - The non-profit Sooke Radio Society is getting closer to its first broadcast over the airwaves as a community radio station. The group recently received a $5,000 grant from the District of Sooke through its Community Grants Program. It's looking to broadcast over the Internet in early 2025.  Oli Herrera, CHEK News
 
John Vennavally-Rao


9/06/24 - Former Vancouver broadcaster John Vennavally-Rao has released some news about his absence from TV screens. Twelve months ago, following a routine colonoscopy, doctors discovered he had two completely separate cancers: rectal cancer and lung cancer. He says he is doing ok and has my his sights set on returning to work. The 53 year old was a general assignment reporter at VTV/ CTV BC from 1997-2002, and is most recently a CTV National News Correspondent based in Toronto.  CTV News

9/06/24 - Liz Shorten, COO of the Canadian Media Producers Association, was among those awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal during a ceremony with B.C. Premier David Eby and B.C. Lieutenant Governor Janet Austin. Shorten was recognized for her outstanding commitment and dedication to the film, television and digital media sectors. Others from the B.C. media community recognized include Sp!ce Radio founder Shushma Datt, CKYE RED FM news director Harjinder Thind, South Asian NHL play-by-play commentator Randip Janda, journalist and TV commentator Guo Ding, and journalist Debbie Chen.

9/06/24 - Global BC has announced the passing of two former staffers. Craig Lawrence died over the weekend from Parkinson’s. He had worked for BCTV/ Global BC as a Camera Operator. Another recent loss of note is Carlo Sgaetti. Many people work with his son Luca and may have also worked with Carlo during his time at Global BC and BCTV.

9/05/24 - Former Vancouver sportscaster Andrew Walker is making a return to radio waves with a new on-air position at Edmonton market Sports 1440 CKJR AM Wetaskiwin. 9/03/24 - Former Victoria broadcaster Stephen Andrew has announced he is running as the Conservative BC MLA Candidate in Oak Bay-Gordon Head in the upcoming fall election. 9/03/24 - Former All Traffic CKGO AM 730 Vancouver morning anchor Jeff Jeffries has started Twitch Traffic to help commuters get through Vancouver's morning traffic rush, weekdays 6 to 10 a.m.  Corus Entertainment shut down the all traffic format on June 26th, replacing it with a simulcast of CKNW AM 980X Posting

8/31/24 - After a 62-year career, Mike McCardell has retired with his final The Last Word on CTV Vancouver. His final farewell came from the PNE, where he has originated numerous segments over the years.  CTV News

8/29/24 - Joey Arsenault leaves the Nat & Drew Show on move CHQM-FM 103.5 Vancouver. He is joining Skyler Richard in running SPARC Media Hub, which has been the show’s producer since 2017.  Show Posting

8/29/24 - George Lee is retiring from Fairchild Media Group after 29 years. He started his career with Fairchild Radio Vancouver in 1995 as a program host, and worked his way up to President of Fairchild Media Group, overseeing four radio stations and five channels across the country.

8/29/24 - Angelina Rai has joined Virgin Radio CHBE-FM 107.3 Victoria in afternoon drive. She has most recently been presenting traffic and weather on CTV Morning Live Vancouver.

8/23/24 - Former Vancouver broadcaster Geoff Rohoman has announced he is taking a leave of absence from his current position as reporter/ anchor at 680 NewsRadio CFTR Toronto. He has some health issues to overcome, including colon cancer. Rohoman was a reporter/ anchor at News 1130 CKWX from 2006-10 before departing for Toronto. He was one of three accredited reporters from Vancouver to cover the 2010 Olympic Games.  X Announcement

8/18/24 - Emmy Award winning political commentator and former Vancouver talk show host Charles Adler has been named to the Senate by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. 8/16/24 - Actor Jeff Goldblum has called out CTV Morning Live Vancouver weather anchor Marke Driesschen for his less than stellar impersonation of him. Goldblum has been guest hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live, and took the shot at Driesschen over his impression during his monologue Wednesday night.  CTV News/ Video

8/16/24 - Former CBC Vancouver staffer Chris Paton passed away from heart related issues July 2 at age 83. She spent several years as a script assistant working primarily on The 7 O’Clock Show. She moved to Toronto for a brief period where she helped launch CBC’s Marketplace and also did runs at CBC Edmonton and Halifax before returning to CBUT as an Executive Producer.

8/15/24 - An obituary has been published for Vancouver DJ Pamela (Tim) Burge, who passed away in Kelowna August 3 at age 79. Then known as Timothy M. Mike McCardell


8/14/24 - At age 80, after 62 years in the news business, legendary Vancouver storyteller Mike McCardell is retiring. He's been telling local TV viewers stories since the mid 1970s, first at BCTV (now Global BC) and then at CTV Vancouver since 2013. His last day on the job will be Friday, Aug. 30 with a farewell to British Columbia viewers at the end of the CTV News at SixEthan Faber, CTV News

8/14/24 - Heritage Vancouver market station CKNW AM 980 is celebrating its 80th anniversary this week with some special programming tomorrow (8/15). CKNW signed on August 15, 1944 with 250 watts on AM 1230, moving to 1320 with 1000 watts in 1949 and then to its current 980 position in 1958, first with 10,000 watts then to 50,000 in 1965.  Milkman Unlimited  CCF Detailed History

The 2019 BCIT Broadcast Journalism graduate joined Global BC in June 2022 from Global Okanagan, where he had been working as a video journalist.  He has listed himself as a former journalist at Global on his X posting.

8/14/24 - Rogers Communications station Sonic CKKS-FM 104.9 Vancouver is beta testing Radio GPT technology with an AI voice during nighttime hours. 8/09/24 - Vancouver sportscaster Joey Kenward, who was diagnosed with leukemia last November, has posted some good news. His leukemia cancer cells are now in remission following a stem cell transplant from an anonymous donor. He has been an on-air Canucks host for Sportsnet 650 CISL since 2017.  David Carrigg, The Sun

8/06/24 - CBC staffer Michael Hugh Morgan passed away July 4, 2024 at 80 years of age. He spent 13 years with CBC Vancouver in the '60s and '70s as a Unit Manager/ Production Manager and then 19 years in Toronto, mostly with the Sports department covering events including football games, the Kentucky Derby and numerous Olympic Games, retiring to Vancouver Island in 1996.

8/03/24 - Former Vancouver radio personality Pamela Burge passed away this morning in Kelowna at age 79. Then Tim Burge entertained at several Vancouver stations following a start at CKDA Victoria in 1964 and then as PD at CFMI-FM 101.1 Vancouver during the 1980s before departing for Kelowna.  Radio West posting
