After over 22 years providing news and information for SW BC over-the-air radio and TV stations, the VANCOUVER BROADCASTERS website is retiring December 31, 2024. The site will remain online for the foreseeable future, but without further updates.

We recommend Broadcast Dialogue, RadioWest, Puget Sound Radio or NWBroadcasters for continuing SW BC news.

We genuinely appreciate all of our followers and especially those who fed us news leads over the past two+ decades.

12/29/24 - Former CBC Vancouver staffer Alden Habacon died December 2 at age 50 following a tragic accident in Hawaii. He was with CBC from 2004-10, initially as a diversity specialist and then as a Senior Manager of Diversity Initiatives.  CBC News  Dignity Memorial Obituary

12/25/24 - Veteran CTV National News Toronto Correspondent John Vennavally-Rao has returned to screens following two major surgeries for two separate cancers. The 1991 Camosun College Victoria Applied Communication Program graduate was a general assignment reporter for VTV/ CTV Vancouver from 1997-2002.  CTV News

12/25/24 - Veteran programmer Christian Hall will assume the role of Program Director at CHUM-FM 104.5 Toronto. He was most recently with Rogers Radio in Vancouver, serving as National Programmer for Classic Hits, as well as Content Director for JACK CJAX-FM 96.9 and SONiC RADiO CKKS-FM 104.9 Vancouver until management changes in late October.  Connie Thiessen, Broadcast Dialogue

12/19/24 - John Voiles has announced his upcoming retirement next March as General Sales and Marketing Manager at CHEK-TV Victoria. He joined CHEK in January 2022, but previously worked in sales for then sister station BCTV, regularly selling advertising on CHEK. His 45-year career includes managerial roles at Global BC, City TV, A-Channel, Astral, and Bell Media.

12/19/24 - Global BC Operations Manager Al Wright has retired after 40 years. He earlier held the positions of Production Editor and Technical Director for CHAN-TV (now Global BC) then News Operations Manager and most recently Station Operations Manager.

12/17/24 - The final Victoria Radio Luncheon, held at 4mile Pub in Victoria was held Monday. It commemorated the voices and faces that shaped the Victoria broadcast market for over four decades.  Barry Bowman, Puget Sound Radio

12/14/24 - Veteran Vancouver traffic reporter Amber Belzer has been appointed Senior Director of Western Canada for the Canadian Traffic Network. She has been CTN's Director of Operations since 2011.  LinkedIn Announcement

12/14/24 - The Zone CJZN-FM 91.3 Victoria, in partnership with Peninsula Co-op, has raised over $50,000 to benefit numerous local charities. The Toy Drive began in 2010, inspired by morning host Dylan Willows and his mother, Marie, who recognized a growing need within the community. The Toy Drive has been renamed The Willows Family Toy Drive, in memory of Dylan, who passed away from cancer earlier this year.  Milkman Unlimited  The Zone Video

12/14/24 - Bob Kronbauer, five time Leo-nominated content creator and founder of Vancouver Is Awesome, is launching a new half-hour weekly show Now You Know BC on CHEK-TV Victoria in mid January.  LinkedIn Announcement

12/14/24 - Drex Chan returns to talk radio for the first time since 2020, covering for John Oakley on CFIQ AM 640 Toronto. After being released from hosting the morning show at JACK CJAX-FM 96.9 Vancouver in April, he most recently hosted evenings remotely on Indie88 CIND-FM 88.1 Toronto.

12/12/24 - Numeris Fall 2024 PPM ratings have been released for Vancouver and four other Canadian markets. CKNW AM 980 leads in A12+ with a 12.1% share.  Bray and Partners Overview

                                      Bancroft


12/09/24 - Former CBC Vancouver journalist, host and story producer Wendy Bancroft has announced she has moved back to the mainland after seven years living on Vancouver Island. She was a CBC Television current affairs journalist in  Edmonton, Toronto and Vancouver from 1975-85 and was most recently an instructor and writing coach for the Story Catcher Workshops in Courtenay since 2014. Bancroft is still mentoring but will be focusing more on her own writing.

Ken Gibson


12/09/24 - Retired CBC Vancouver staffer Ken Gibson passed away November 30 at age 92. He held the positions of propsman, studio director. TV producer and area head of TV variety from 1961 until his retirement in 1997. There will be no funeral service per his wishes.  Detailed CBC Obituary
